A Fairytale Engagement Shoot For A Couple 13 Years In The Making

The beaches of Pawleys Island are a far cry from the Pocono Mountains, but Megan and Anthony have never been a predictable couple. This fearless Pennsylvania pair met in middle school, moved 700 miles from home, and got engaged during a global pandemic. Needless to say, shooting their engagement photos was quite an adventure!
Our first stop was Caledonia Golf & Fish Club where Megan wore a green dress to complement the dripping Spanish moss. Anthony was handsome and casual in a navy polo shirt as he danced, dipped, and canoodled with his future bride along Caledonia’s famous Live Oak Alley.
Megan and Anthony’s love story began in seventh grade homeroom. Although the attraction was instant, Anthony cut things off after just a few months. As it always seems to do, life pulled them in different directions until they reconnected when Megan was in grad school.
After years of separation, they decided to take things slow, declining to put a label on their relationship until one fateful night in September of 2018.
“We are always joking around and being competitive,” Megan told me. “One night when we were out, I told Anthony, ‘If you can beat me in this game of pool, then I will be your girlfriend.’ To this day, it is the only time he has beaten me!”
One year later Megan and Anthony relocated to the Grand Strand to pursue Megan’s new career in physical therapy. On a weekend trip to the quaint town of Bluffton, Anthony popped the question – although it was not the perfect proposal he had hoped for.
Their romantic Saturday evening dinner cruise was canceled due to a projected hurricane, so they spent the night strolling through beautiful downtown Bluffton. As they sat on a wooden swing set, Anthony asked for Megan’s hand in marriage, and of course, she said YES!
Self-professed beach bums, the second location for Megan and Anthony’s engagement photos was inspired by their love for Pawleys Island and its stunning private pier. The couple wore shades of coral creating a bright contrast against the white sand.
Couples like Megan and Anthony are such a joy to photograph. Their devotion to one another shines through in each image. They hope to be married in the spring of 2022 back home in Pennsylvania where their story first began.
